Saturday from 10-6pm (I’m doing an art demo from 3-4:30!)
Sunday from 10am-4pm
After this card, I’ll be caught up on my weekly card paintings. Well, actually, I have one more to do for this week, but I’ll post that on Saturday! This card is inspired by the bag of cherries I was eating while painting a new mini-pet painting (still working on it). Cherries are interesting to paint. They are such a deep red/purple/blue color. I also had a pretty intense lamp pointing on my canvas, so the lighting is dramatic. I painted this in acrylic, which I’m still learning to paint with. I showed this card to a friend of mine and she said it looked like a rotting apple with a worm coming out of it. I love my friends. 🙂 It is supposed to be a cherry with a stem; although rotting apples would make an interesting painting I’m sure.
This project is still a lot of fun and full of surprises for me. My painted card this week is of a beer keg in the middle of a lawn. I suppose I was feeling the mood of St. Patrick’s Day when I painted this one. Looking back, I seem to be doing a lot of landscape type paintings on these cards. This has made me think that it’s probably time to paint another landscape painting in full size. With each new painting, my technique and style is improving. I am so lucky to have the opportunity to learn and grow in the company of established artists and this great Arts Community we have here in Longmont Colorado!
“People’s Choice Award – Photography” Jill Rumley for “Pent-Up”
Thank you to everyone who came out to support me and the artists from the Longmont Artists’ Guild at the Great Frame Up last Friday night! I was honored to win the people’s choice award for photography! This photo was taken a couple of years ago on a drive in Northern Colorado. Actually, we don’t know exactly where we were. We were sort of lost on a dirt road. I saw these horses pent up in a pen and huddled together. I just loved the way they seemed to have all of this energy building up and ready to let go. That’s why I titled the piece “Pent-Up” We all know how that feels!
“Still Life Experiment” by Jill Rumley. Oil on canvas, 18 x 24
Also this week, I finished my first “still life’ painting of a duck decoy. I added a green apple because I felt there was too much “white space” to the right of the decoy. So now I have an inanimate object AND a piece of fruit! I really love this piece. I think it’s one of my favorites. What do you think?
Yep, shameless plug! Tonight (Friday, March 10th) starting at 5pm at the Great Frame up at 430 Main Street in Longmont, the Longmont Artists’ Guild is having their annual show. There will be a reception starting at 5pm with voting by public opinion for “Best in Show” as well as “Best 2D” and “Best Photography” ending by 7pm.
I entered 3 paintings and 3 photographs! (because I just couldn’t decide!) . ALL ART IS FOR SALE!
Some com on down and give me a vote…er um… I mean vote for your favorite art! There will be finger food, drinks and wine to purchase.
